The real New London, Iowa

My story takes place in the fictional metropolis of New London that's basically where Des Moines is in our reality. I didn't think until recently that there might be a real New London, Iowa!

New London is a city in Henry County, Iowa, United States. The population was 1,897 at the 2010 census.

History
New London was originally called Dover, after its founder Abraham C. Dover, who came to the area from Illinois in 1833.

New London is located at 40°55′31″N 91°24′4″W (40.925224, -91.401105). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.01 square miles (2.62 km2), all land.

The racial makeup of the city was 96.5% White, 1.7% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.4% Asian, 0.1% from other races, and 1.1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.9% of the population.
